The path disappears long before the mountains do. In the Dolomites, every turn reveals another ridge, another valley, another reason to put the map away for a moment and simply look.

We leave the refuge before first light. The trail is quiet except for loose gravel beneath our boots. Clouds gather around the highest peaks, then pull apart to reveal the pale stone that makes these mountains unlike anywhere else.

There is a particular freedom in moving slowly through a landscape this large. A cup of coffee at a mountain hut. An hour beside a lake. No summit to collect, no finish line to cross. Just the small pleasure of being somewhere that asks nothing of you but your attention.
